PERISTERONAS HOUSE is located in Apollonia, the capital of Sifnos. It is built in a beautiful location and combines the countryside atmosphere and the proximity to the city.
Meet the beautiful city of Sifnos, picturesque Apollonia or Stavri, as the locals call it. It is built amphitheatrically on three hills, in the center of the island. The ancient homonymous city was built in the same place. As its name implies, god Apollo was worshiped there, (Apollonia means a city dedicated to the worship of Apollo). It owes the name Stavri, to its geographical location, as it is a compulsory crossing, crossroad, in all directions of the island.
Apollonia is a beautiful Cycladic city that impresses with the traditional architecture of its settlement. Paved alleys, small squares, churches and two-storey whitewashed houses create a harmonious whole. When exploring the city, do not forget to buy handmade ceramic decorations. Pottery is an art with a long tradition on the island.
Sifnos is the homeland of the famous cook, Nikos Tselemendes, and is famous for its traditional recipies. Try the special tastes of Sifnian cuisine at the island taverns. The most popular dishes are chickpea balls, oven chickpeas, caper salad, etc. We suggest you accompany them with the Sifnian Manoura and fresh Mizithra.
Every September in Sifnos is organized the three-day Cycladic Gastronomy Festival "Nicolaos Tselementes". It is worth attending the festival's events and taste unique Cycladic recipes as this festival is attended by delegations from all the Cycladic islands.
